The GWIB and President Nixon

Star-News 1973 Article on the GWIB at the White House

As many of you are aware, President's Washington, Harding, Eisenhower, Carter, and George H. W. Bush have used the Washington Inaugural Bible in their Inaugural oath taking.  Many other President's, though, have a connection to the GWIB.

President Richard M. Nixon used his family Bible four times; twice as President and twice as Vice-President.  In 1973, however, First Lady Pat Nixon requested that the George Washington Inaugural Bible be put on display at the White House during the Inaugural ceremonies and had the Bible owned by St. John's Lodge No. 1 AYM in New York next to the Nixon family Bible.

The Bible was escorted down by 5 members of our Lodge and represents another connection to the US Presidents.
